We as lash artists already know the lash growth cycle, and the different stages associated with it. But do we know the importance of our clients knowing this information? Some of you may think why do we need to explain this? Well, the better understanding your clients have of this, the better they will understand their lash service received and will know what to expect in the coming weeks after they receive the service.

LASH GROWTH CYCLE

Let’s start with the cycle, a little refresher course. As you know, our hair continuously grows every single day. Hence the reason people get hair cuts, men shave their faces, etc. It just keeps growing! Lashes are the same, they grow, they shed, they grow again, and so on. Here are the different stages of lash growth:

ANAGEN

The anagen stage of the lash growth cycle is the actual growing stage of the hair. The most important phase for a majority of us! We all want our lashes to keep growing and growing. As you can see in the image above, the anagen phase starts when the hair is brand new. Then it continues to grow for roughly 4-6 weeks on average, until it begins the next stage of the cycle.

Do you want the lashes to grow longer during the anagen phase? Of course, who doesn’t. We have something that can help anyone with their lash growth, Yumi Nourishing Biotin Serum. This guarantees up to 43% longer and 40% thicker lashes in just 15 days!

 CATAGEN

The catagen stage, also known as the transition phase, is when the lash has stopped growing but it isn’t yet ready to shed. The hair follicle will start to shrink, making room for the new hair to start growing underneath it. This stage usually lasts 2-3 weeks, and if the lash is plucked during this phase, the new hair will not start growing until the due course has been taken. So don’t pluck your lashes girls!

 TELOGEN

The telogen stage is the final phase of the lash growth cycle, also known as the resting phase. During this phase, the lash is literally resting while the new lash is growing underneath it and will naturally push the old lash out, which causes the shedding of lashes. This is the longest phase of the life cycle. The eyelash will eventually fall out during the telogen phase.

 CLIENTS

Okay, so we’ve had a little refresher of the lash growth cycle, now why should our clients know this information? Well, there are several reasons why we should educate our clients. For one, clients that get a lash treatment done, whether it be extensions or lash lift, will be paying extra attention to their eye area. Especially if it’s their first time! So because of all this extra attention, they will see the natural lash shedding and immediately may think “oh no! the lash lift is making my lashes fall out!”. If we explain this properly to the clients so they understand, then they won’t panic when they see a few lashes fall out.

Another reason why it’s important to explain this cycle to our clients is it will help them understand how long their lash lift or lash extensions will last. Of course, following proper aftercare will affect the longevity, but unfortunately for the client, these amazing lashes don’t last forever. As the lashes go through the phase, they’ll fall out, new lashes will come in, and they’ll need to have the treatment again. So it’s important to let you clients know this so they can better understand how long their beautiful lash lift or lash extensions will last, along with proper aftercare!

As a lash artist, knowing the lash growth cycle is one of the most important things for you to thoroughly understand. And passing this knowledge onto your clients will not only help them gain a better understanding of what to expect, but it builds their trust in you as their artist. You can even put a quick explanation of the lash growth cycle on your aftercare cards for the clients! They would love that.
